A Little Bit About Me

My proper name is Elizabeth and yes I was named after the late Queen just like my mother.  My Mum  did shorten it to Lisa for a number of reasons the main one being it was too long for me to spell as a young girl.

I was born and bred in a little town called Markinch,  on the East Coast of Scotland and did not leave until I started my Nursing Degree at 18yrs of age.  I had an amazing childhood which I have only come to appreciate in my later years, especially when I became a parent.  We lived in a cul -de- sac and had lots of kids to play with from the street.  Our back yard was the local woods which had a natural sand pit too. All our play time was outside in the woods, making dens out of roots and leaves, playing “cops and robbers”  and “gunners on the beach”.  The mothers would often come out with a big piece of rope for us to have skipping competitions and every November there would be the street bonfire where we would all gather together.

My parents were a very traditional family in that Dad was the breadwinner and Mum was the homemaker and again reflecting back it worked for them and they always ensured quality family time as much as possible where we would go on a camping weekend to the local beach with the cousins.  Yes, Fife does have amazing beaches but alas the Scottish weather and the North Sea was not conducive to a nice swim.

So, at the age of 18yrs I headed off to Bonny Dundee to start my Degree in Nursing and never looked back.  Now forty years later,( yes I can’t believe it !!!) in my role as a Children’s Continence Nurse, I am still as passionate about Nursing and every day is very much a privilege for me. Being able to make a difference to so many young lives and the families that I meet through my business.  Every child is unique,  and it is a pleasure interacting and getting to know all about them when they come and play in my clinic or a talk to them via zoom.

I know how happy my childhood was and want the same for as many kids as possible.  Most of the kids who initially attend my clinic are often unhappy because “Mr Poo or Little Miss Wee” is misbehaving.  However, after a few visits, the transformation can be life changing for the child and family.

What do I do when I am not talking about “poos and wees”

Well,  I love my pets who are often keeping me company in my office.  My hubby and I get away on our boat fishing as much as possible mainly because staying at home there always seems to be housework, gardening and other jobs that need to be done.  Going away on the boat is total down time doing what we love which is fishing and catching that elusive big trout.
